The short version
MTD Master is a Windows desktop application. Your bookkeeping records are stored on your own PC, not on a server we run. We do not sell your information. Bank access is read-only, arranged through Open Banking with your explicit consent.
Who we are
MTD Master ("we", "us") publishes the MTD Master application and this website. For anything on this page, contact info@mtdmaster.co.uk.
What the app stores, and where
- Bookkeeping records — transactions, categories, notes, evidence, reports and settings are kept in a local database on your Windows PC.
- Bank connection tokens — stored using Windows protected storage where it is available on your device, so the token is tied to your Windows account.
- Backups — only created when you ask for one, and can be password-encrypted. Where you save them is your choice.
We do not operate a server that receives or stores your bookkeeping records.
Bank connections and Open Banking
MTD Master connects to your bank through BankSync, an Open Banking provider. When you connect an account:
- BankSync asks you to sign in to your bank, and to choose which accounts MTD Master may read.
- MTD Master asks for read-only access — bank connections, accounts, balances and transactions. It cannot move money.
- Your bank login details are never shared with MTD Master.
- BankSync holds the connection and the consent record. Their own privacy policy governs what they process.
You can withdraw consent at any time: use Disconnect in MTD Master, or remove the app from your BankSync account. Once consent is withdrawn, MTD Master can no longer read your bank data.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade your data.
- We do not use your records for advertising or profiling.
- We do not file anything with HMRC on your behalf.
- We do not ask for or store your online banking credentials.
This website
- We do not set cookies and we do not run analytics or advertising trackers.
- We load web fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser requests those files from Google's servers, which may record your IP address and user agent. See Google's own privacy policy for details.
- Our hosting provider, Netlify, keeps standard server logs — such as IP address, user agent and requested URL — for security and to run the service.
When you contact us
If you email info@mtdmaster.co.uk or submit the support form, we receive the details you provide — typically your name, email address and message — along with the technical information needed to deliver it. The form is processed by Netlify on our behalf.
We use this to answer your query and to keep a record of support requests. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interests in supporting our users, and taking steps to perform our contract with you.
How long we keep things
- Local app data — kept on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app and remove its data folder.
- Bank consent — until you or your bank revoke it.
- Support correspondence — for as long as needed to resolve your query, then deleted or archived.
- Website server logs — a short retention period under Netlify's standard settings.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because your bookkeeping records live on your own device, you control those directly — we hold no copy.
To exercise your rights over anything we do hold, email info@mtdmaster.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Keeping your data safe
- Your records stay on your PC. The working database is not encrypted at rest, so protect your Windows account and device.
- Bank tokens use Windows protected storage where it is available.
- Portable backups can be password-encrypted before you move or store them.
- Bank access is read-only, limited to the accounts you selected.
Children
MTD Master is a business bookkeeping tool and is not intended for use by anyone under 18.
