1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and MTD Master ("we", "us"). By installing, downloading or using the MTD Master application, or by using this website, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.
2. What MTD Master is
MTD Master is a Windows desktop bookkeeping application for UK sole traders. It helps you import bank transactions, categorise income and expenses, keep digital records, see estimated tax figures, and produce reports for your accountant or compatible filing software.
3. What MTD Master is not
- It is not tax, legal or accounting advice. All figures, estimates and suggested categories are provided for guidance only.
- It is not a filing service. MTD Master does not submit anything to HMRC. You or your agent remain responsible for filing returns and for their accuracy.
- It is not a substitute for an accountant. Always have your records checked by a qualified professional before submitting tax returns.
4. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use MTD Master on devices you control, for your own personal or business bookkeeping. You may not resell, sublicense, rent out or redistribute the software, and you may not reverse engineer it except to the extent the law expressly permits.
5. Your responsibilities
- Keep your Windows account, device and any backups secure.
- Take your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.
- Check figures before you rely on them, and before you submit anything to HMRC.
- Only connect bank accounts you are entitled to access, and only grant consent you are authorised to give.
- Comply with HMRC rules and your own legal and regulatory obligations.
6. Third-party services
MTD Master depends on services we do not control:
- BankSync — provides Open Banking connectivity and holds your consent record, under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Your bank — controls whether and when its Open Banking connection is available.
- GitHub — hosts our downloads and releases.
- Netlify — hosts this website and processes the support form.
Their availability, terms and charges are theirs, not ours. We are not responsible for a third-party service being unavailable, changed or withdrawn.
7. Updates and changes
We may release updates that change, add or remove features. Some builds may be labelled as beta or preview; those are provided for testing and may behave unpredictably or contain defects.
8. No warranty
The software is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties, including that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its calculations will be correct or suitable for your circumstances. You are responsible for verifying your own records and figures.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of business, loss or corruption of data, or for any penalties, interest or assessments imposed by HMRC. Our total liability arising out of or in connection with MTD Master is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Because your records are stored locally, you are responsible for keeping backups. We cannot recover data that has been lost on your device.
10. Ending this agreement
You may stop using MTD Master at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including liability limits and governing law — continue to apply.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
